Before I Forget.....

....so..I've been drinking whisky for roughly 10 years now and I have had many amazing times and made many friends...my problem is that I have a terrible memory. So I thought I would note down what I can remember of my forays into whiskydom whilst I can still remember some of it. This is mainly for me to look back upon and reminisce about when the synapses eventually stop firing.
I shall write about people I have met and tastings and events I have been to. In this relatively short period I have been to events in America and here in the UK. I am fortunate enough to be able to attend tastings held by St Andrews Quaich Society which is run by students from the university. Living in the central belt of Scotland means I have access to the many events that happen in and around the Edinburgh and Glasgow area. We have some pretty good shops round here too...Luvians is my local, it being a five minute walk down the road but the draw of the Edinburgh shops has aye loosened the purse strings. I am not a big spender as I don't have the funds but I do have a modest accumulation of bottles. I'm not keen on calling it a collection as I intend to open them in time. Back when I first got into whisky  I was fascinated by price and what could make a profit...but as the fascination grew so did the desire to taste. And to that end the only bottle I have for sale is my Loch Dhu...I've tasted it at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews and whilst it is not the worst tasting thing I've had it aint gonna win any beauty contests..too much 'slap'!
Speaking of 'slap'.. and for this read 'caramel' I like to see my whisky fall into 3 criteria...cask strength, unchillfiltered and caramel free. But that is an ideal world...we are getting there slowly but surely. This does not mean that I think that all whiskies that stumble at any of these hurdles are bad....it just means they could be better and I applaud the ones that are au naturel...does not guarantee that they will be stonking but the ethos is one of quality. Anyways...it is all a matter of personal taste.....Loch Dhu anyone??
